Solidarity Lowell February 2026 Meeting Featuring Julio Mejia and Nancy Coan
Our featured speaker was State Representative Vanna Howard, who we have endorsed for State Senate in the special election primary on February 3rd, 2026. She came to the United States at 11 years old, after surviving a communist genocide. She lost her dad, three siblings, and grandparents, and faced homelessness, hunger, and domestic violence, but this community got her through it. She has dedicated her life to giving back. From working for Congresswoman Niki Tsongas helping constituents in Lowell, Dracut, Pepperell, Tyngsborough, and Dunstable, to serving in the District Attorney’s Office, and volunteering with more than 50 nonprofits. As State Representative, she has secured millions to combat the housing crisis, strengthen childcare, and make our community safer. A recording of the November 2025 Solidarity Lowell meeting, which was held on November 23, 2025. Our featured speaker was Tom Raiche from Merrimack Valley Central Labor Council. As an AFL-CIO Community organizer, his role is to serve the entire Merrimack Valley region, promoting the efforts of social justice, addiction recovery, labor, and community service. He helps build and bond relationships to help those in need within the communities of the Merrimack Valley. He is also on the board of Merrimack Valley Project. Featuring Lowell Together endorsed candidates Connie Martin for School Committee At-Large, Belinda Juran for City Council District 3, Wayne Jenness for City Council District 4, Sidney Liang for City Council District 7, and Marcos Candido for City Council District 8. Please note that Vesna Nuon, City Council Candidate At-Large is also endorsed, but was unavailable to attend this event. Lorena Betts, candidate for State Representative in the 16th Middlesex District and founder of Chelmsford Connected was our host. Each candidate was given three minutes to introduce themselves, two questions from Lowell Together, two questions from the audience, and two minutes to respond to each of those questions. Solidarity Lowell June Meeting Featuring Lowell Alliance
The May meeting of Solidarity Lowell was held on May 18, 2025. Our featured speaker was Maroni Minter from MIRA, the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition. Maroni is a proud immigrant, born and raised in Gabon, West Africa. He moved to the USA in 2004, lived in Vermont for 20 year before he moved to Boston last year, when he accepted the Political Director position at MIRA. Prior to joining MIRA, he was the Activism Manager at Ben & Jerry's, and also served as the Campaign Director for the ACLU of Vermont.
