At the request of Centro Presente, City Councilor Josh Zakim will propose a Boston City Council resolution to support thousands of Central American migrants that are part of a caravan escaping from extreme violence and seeking safety.

WHEN: Wednesday, December, 5th at 12:00pm
WHERE: City Council Ianella Chambers, 5th Floor, Boston City Hall

The Boston City Council will discuss a resolution to support thousands of Central American migrants that have fled their homes because of the distress in their country. “We thank Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim, for supporting this initiative and being the author of our resolution.”

Centro Presente stands in solidarity with the caravan of Central American immigrants and reiterates that it will continue to defend and work to promote the protection and respect for the human rights of all migrants, whatever their condition or circumstance, with special attention to women, children and members of the LGBTQ community, who are more marginalized and at greater risk of suffering human rights violations.

“We call for the governments of the region to respect the human rights of migrants, members of the caravan and of all those people who are forced to migrate as a last option to survive. We reiterate that there continues to be a series of structural factors such as poverty, inequality, violence and social exclusion, which act as the main factors in the expulsion of people from their countries of origin,” declared Patricia Montes, Executive Director of Centro Presente.
