Lowell Education Justice Alliance Meeting

We will be meeting at the offices of the United Teachers of Lowell, 169 Merrimack Street, 4th floor.

We will plan our next steps with regards to Representatives Nangle and Golden, who both are unwilling to commit to supporting the Fund Our Future legislation. They don’t get off that easily. Lowell’s students and schools need and deserve representatives who will fight for them.

We will also have an attorney with Lawyers for Civil Rights, formerly the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice.
They, along with the NAACP New England, the MTA, and other community groups, are a part of the Council for Fair School Finance, the coalition that litigated McDuffy in the early 1990s, which led to Chapter 70 and the current funding model. They are contemplating additional legal action in order to update the school funding model in the event that the Legislature does not act this session to provide the resources needed for our students. They want to talk with LEJA to see if and how we’d like to be involved.
