This exciting community gathering celebrates Lowell’s Cambodian community with delicious ethnic Khmer food, beautiful traditional outfits, live performance of Cambodian royal ballet dancers (which were only performed to the royal families), and other traditional folk dances.
Last year about 400 community members participated in this lively event with hope that more will join this year. Every year Khmer New Year celebration provides a joyful opportunity for Cambodian residents to connect with one another through shared traditions and experiences that is unique to the culture of Lowell’s largest ethnic group.
This event is organized and collaborated by a coalition of community-based organizations including the CMAA – Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association, Lowell Police Department (Official), the Lowell Senior Center, Clemente Park Committee, Fallon Health-Summit ElderCare/NaviCare, Lowell Alliance, Lowell Community Health Center/Metta Health Center and more. With that being said, other local businesses, non-profit organizations, Lowell residents and volunteers play a critical role in making this event possible for the whole community.
