Hungry4Justice Boston // Families Belong Together and Free

Thursday, September 6th, 1-8pm, South Bay Detention Center, 20 Bradston St, Boston

As the administration fails to meet the court-ordered deadline to reunite all families separated by the Zero Tolerance immigration policy, we demand that every migrant family separated by this administration be reunited and released from incarceration. We demand that the families receive support and justice for the trauma inflicted by our government. We are launching a national rolling hunger strike in solidarity with migrant families who are still separated and/or incarcerated. We were inspired by the hunger strike of mothers inside Port Isabel Detention Center in Texas, who went on a rolling hunger strike after being denied the right to speak to their children and the awful conditions inside the detention center. Community members in one city after another will step up to fast for a few days at a time. As the fast ends in one city, it will pick up in another.

Boston RISE for Climate, Jobs, Justice: Rally and People’s School

Saturday, September 8th, noon, East Boston Memorial Park, 143 Porter St, East Boston

Local climate and immigrant justice groups are joining forces to strengthen relationships across our movements, build collective power, and demand accountability and ACTION on climate change and immigrant rights:  100% renewable energy for all. Dignity and respect for all. Join us to envision & build a just transition in MA: from dirty coal, oil, and gas to clean wind and solar power. From prisons and deportations to freedom and sanctuary. From worker abuse to safe, green, family-sustaining union jobs. From gentrification and displacement to affordable housing and transit. From corporate control to community control. From polluted air, water, and soil to healthy people and planet. From extraction and exploitation to economic and environmental justice.

Stand Against Inhumane Prison Conditions

Governor Charles Duane Baker: (617) 725-4005

We know that temperatures are excessive in prisons all across the country and all across the state — and more are violating environmental health standards. The first demand of the national prison strike is: “Immediate improvements to the conditions of prisons and prison policies that recognize the humanity of imprisoned men and women.” In alignment with this demand, it is time to turn the heat back up on the DOC. Please join us by demanding inspections of ALL state prisons and by calling Charlie Baker to demand Thomas Turco, Commissioner of the Department of Corrections, be fired for allowing this human rights abuse to occur.

Sample Script: “Hello, I’m ________ from [ZIP] and Solidarity Lowell. I have been informed that prisoners in MA do not have access to air conditioning, fans, or clean water. This is yet another example of environmental racism on the part of the state of Massachusetts and the DOC. I demand that you immediately terminate Commissioner Turco. Further, you must instruct the DOC to install air conditioning and fans in all units and provide prisoners with free, clean bottled water and personal fans. Thank you!”

Niki Tsongas: 978-459-0101

Sample Script: “Hello, I’m ________ from [ZIP] and Solidarity Lowell asking you to support reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act before Sept. 30. Since its passage in 1994, this law has increased accountability for perpetrators and received bipartisan support for three previous renewals. Please co-sponsor and vote for passage of H.R. 6545. Thank you!”

Remembrance Rally/Counter-Protest Fascist Hate in Boston

Saturday, August 18th, 10am, Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon St, Boston

Far right groups Resist Marxism and Boston Free Speech are planning to hold a demonstration where they intend to rally and march under the hypocritical banner of a “March Against Leftist Violence.” As we have done time and time again this past year, we have to oppose them in the streets. There is no room for their hate in our city. Join anti-racists in Boston as we commemorate those who have lost their lives to violent fascists. After a rally, we plan on counter-protesting the far right.

Volunteer to Help #50MilesMore

From August 22nd to the 26th, students will be marching from Worcester to Springfield, the home of Smith and Wesson, America’s 3rd largest gun manufacturer. Smith and Wesson, producer of the M&P 15 used in Parkland, Aurora, and San Bernardino, continues to deny responsibility and refuse to track where their weapons are going. Students will march to demand that Smith and Wesson recognize their role in the epidemic of gun violence. They are looking for adults who have a day or two off to help by marching with students, driving cars with supplies and setting up rest and lodging locations, or by chaperoning during nights spent at the lodging locations.

City of Lowell Listening Session: Local Governance

Wednesday, August 1st, 6:30-8pm, Henry J Robinson Middle School, 110 June Street, Lowell

This is part of a series of listening sessions for residents to give feedback about local governance, elections, and the voting rights lawsuit. It’s important for residents to be informed about this issue because they have a high chance in affecting the outcome by giving their feedback to the City Councilors via the ad hoc subcommittee and showing up at the final City Council meeting. Our hopes are that more engagement will translate to local leaders running for local office and voters from diverse communities feeling represented.

State

Day of Action for Immigrant Families

Saturday, July 28th, 10am, Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon Street, Boston

As the Trump Administration drags its heels on reuniting thousands of separated children with their parents, it’s time we once again take action and demand a solution to this crisis and dignity for all immigrants. Right here in Massachusetts, our House leadership did not include any of the Safe Communities Act Senate amendments to the State Budget. Their silence is compliance in the Trump Agenda and the detention/deportation machine and police and ICE collaboration. Because of their cowardice, our neighbors across our state will continue to be separated, detained and deported. We’re stepping up to say Families Belong Together: We Demand Justice!

Rally for CLASS Inc. Caregivers

Monday, July 30th, noon-2pm, 1 Parker St., Lawrence

After a one-week strike earlier this month, Lawrence-based human services agency CLASS, Inc. is still refusing to pay its workers fair wages that will adress the high turnover that is threatening the quality of care at the agency! SEIU Local 509 members at CLASS, Inc. have voted overwhelmingly to authorize an open-ended strike beginning on Monday, July 30, and workers are calling on the agency to sit down with workers and negotiate a fair contract.

Tuesday, July 31st, 5:30-7:30pm, Ruggles Station, Boston

Northeastern University has received $2.7 million from an ongoing research contract with ICE. The agency is also listed as an employer for NEU’s student co-op program. The university benefits from and provides services to ICE, making them complicit in the agency’s criminalization and dehumanization of the immigrant community. Join Cosecha to march on NEU!

Jericho Walk Outside ICE Offices for Immigrant Justice

Wednesday, August 1st, 8-9am, 1000 District Ave, Burlington

The Jericho Walk is a silent interfaith prayer and act of solidarity. The walk draws inspiration from the Battle of Jericho, in which the community marched around the city of Jericho seven times, causing the city walls to fall. The Jericho Walk of today is a silent, peaceful, and prayerful walk to bring down the walls of our unjust immigration system and is open to people of all or no faiths. Please bring signs calling for just treatment of those who are caught in our broken immigration system.

Sample Script: “Hi, I’m _______ from [ZIP]. I support an accurate census count, increased participation, accurate dispersal of funding, and fair congressional representation. I oppose the citizenship question on the 2020 census form. I also oppose inadequate testing of added questions. I am against sharing citizenship data with National Conference of State Legislatures. I also do not support changes to Public Law 94-171 Redistricting Data File. Thank you!”

Rally to Pass 4 Key Protections

Tuesday, July 10th, 11:30am-1:30pm, Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon St, Boston

We have rallied, made calls, sent emails and visited our legislators – and we need to keep going because our job is not done! The FY2019 State Budget has not yet been released. It must include the 4 Key Protections: 1. No police inquiries about immigration status. 2. Stop collaboration agreements with ICE. 3. Provide basic due process protections. 4. Refuse to contribute to any discriminatory registry. We will meet outside on the State House steps and hear from a few of our leaders. We will then enter through the Bowdoin St entrance (around the side – not the Hooker Entrance) and march to the area outside of the House Chamber (3rd floor). We plan to be assembled there by 12:30 PM.

Families Belong Together!

Saturday, June 30th (see location and times below with links to RSVP)

Donald Trump and his administration have cruelly separated thousands of children from their families. Now they’re jailing families — and they haven’t yet reunified the families already brutally torn apart. But we won’t allow it to continue. On June 30, we’re rallying around the country to tell Donald Trump and his administration to permanently end the separation of kids from their parents. End family internment camps. End the “zero-humanity” policy that created this crisis. And reunify the children with their parents. Send a clear message to Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress: Families Belong Together!

Children are being lost and abused, parents are committing suicide and through all this the perpetrators are bragging about their atrocities. We need you to be on the right side of history and fight with us. We will meet at Wellington Common Park across from the Mass Ave. T Station to march to South Bay.
