Climate-concerned Folks – Our next meeting is this Wednesday September 20. In recent news, Hurricane Irma is adding to record taxpayer costs for climate disasters this year, but is having little effect on the denial of climate reality in the White House. Pope Francis urged leaders to take their moral responsibility seriously, and warned history will judge those who deny the science. More than 1,200 global businesses seem to be listening as Microsoft, Disney, Unilever, Shell, General Motors, and others embraced a price on carbon dioxide emissions – a measure not likely to get through Congress, but we’re working to make it happen in MA – and VW announced they’ll build electric versions of all models by 2030.
We’d love to see you at this week’s meeting, but even better would be if you can attend the first of our State House hearings on clean energy bills, Tuesday (Sept. 19) afternoon on the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). If you can’t make it Tuesday, you can still email your legislators to support the RPS with a few clicks. At Wednesday’s meeting we’ll continue the legislator outreach planning, and go over progress to implement Lowell’s recent resolution for 100% Renewable Energy by 2035. Please stop by this week’s meeting or give us a shout to learn more.
