SUMMARY:March for Science Boston - Cambridge 2019 Rally
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for the 2019 March for Science Boston – Cambridge! \nIn 2017 and 2018\, thousands of us came to defend Science\, Technology\, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as the climate and environment. We want to do it again: bring attention to important issues and push for evidence-based policy. \nOn Saturday\, May 4th\, 2019\, we will host the third annual Boston March for Science. Together we can make a difference\, advance scientific research\, and raise support for evidence-based policies in New England. \nOur priorities:\n1. Spread the message that science is real\, and the crucial need to have fact-based\, evidence-based\, and reality-based policy.\n2. Climate change is real. If we want to preserve our natural environment for generations to come\, we must take action now.\n3. We support the inclusion of People of Color\, women\, and in LGBT community in STEM professions. We believe that a good society is one in which everyone is scientifically\, mathematically\, and technologically literate. We can only advance as a society when everyone has access to STEM education and has the opportunity to contribute to our technological advancement. \nIf you are a member of a pro-science\, pro-education\, environment or technology group\, please make a public comment here on this event page. We are looking for groups to endorse and support our event. We will also be needing speakers. \nOfficial Event Partners:\nVaccinate Massachusetts\nAppalachian Mountain Club Boston Chapter\nShe+ Geeks Out\nCharles River Watershed Association\nMystic River Watershed Association \nOfficial Speakers:\nBob Massie\nAndre Green\, Ward 4 Somerville School Committee member\nDelilah Bethel\, Charles River Watershed Association\nSean Connell\nJames Carver\nKatie Blair

On this day\, we will come together and join forces with Latinx leaders from diverse sectors\, Latinx-led community organizations and power-building groups from across Massachusetts. Through our keynote speakers\, Firestarter storytellers\, interactive workshops\, and closing social reception\, participants will build powerful partnerships and relationships that amplify our work. \nDuring this convening we will begin to: \nBUILD a sustainable coalition of Latinx leaders and organizations that support our Amplify Latinx mission of increasing Latino civic engagement\, leadership representation\, and economic opportunity; \nDEVELOP a diverse leadership pipeline who will challenge the status quo and advance the priority issues of the Amplify Latinx coalition; \nIDENTIFY key policy issues for the Massachusetts Latino community that will become part of an Amplify Latinx shared policy agenda for Latino upward mobility. \nAgenda\n1:30 – 2:00 Registration and Networking \n2:00 – 3:30 Opening Program: Keynote and Firestarters \n3:45 – 5:00 Partner Breakout Sessions \n5:15 – 6:00 Closing Keynote Session \n6:00 – 7:00 Networking Reception \n*Speakers and Workshops to be announced \nAbout Amplify Latinx: \nAmplify Latinx is a non-partisan\, collaborative convener that builds Latinx economic and political power by significantly increasing Latinx civic engagement and representation in leadership positions across sectors. SUMMARY:ROE Act Hearing
DESCRIPTION:Bodily autonomy is a fundamental human right. And it’s at risk. With the appointment of anti-choice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court\, President Trump and his allies have the best chance in a generation to end legal abortion. \nIn such a climate\, it’s important for states like Massachusetts to shore up and expand the protections granted in Roe vs. Wade. \nNext Monday\, June 17\, the Joint Committee on the Judiciary will hear testimony on the ROE Act (S.1209/H.3320). Parents\, providers\, young people\, and advocates agree—no one should be forced to cross state lines for care. \nThe hearing will start at noon\, and will likely go for a while. \nLet us know if you can go — and if you want to testify — here.

SUMMARY:Election Day Registration (EDR) Hearing
DESCRIPTION:TLDR: There’s a hearing for Election Day Registration this Thursday and we need volunteers to show their support simply attending the hearing and wearing a sticker. Help us pass this critical and commonsense reform by showing up at 1pm and staying for however long you can.\n—\nThis month\, over 100 volunteers came out to show their support for Election Day Registration at Lobby Day. \nNow\, Election Day Registration has a hearing on June 20 – and we need your support. A strong constituent showing at the hearing may decide whether EDR goes to a vote – and gets passed. \nElection Day Registration is a simple and proven reform that will ensure that every eligible voter who wants to exercise their constitutional right to vote on Election Day can cast a ballot that gets counted. \nPlease join us at the State House (Hearing Room A-1) on June 20 to attend the hearing and wear an EDR sticker! We believe that a strong showing of constituent support may make the difference. Our democracy will be stronger for it.

SUMMARY:Forum on Climate Change with Sen. Marc Pacheco
DESCRIPTION:I am pleased to invite you to a special presentation on climate change that I will be hosting along with Senator Marc Pacheco\, the Chair of the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change.\nClimate change poses an immediate and disastrous threat to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and its individual communities. It is critically important that we remain committed to combating the increasingly dangerous side effects of this environmental emergency. The recent flooding that has become commonplace in coastal regions of the Commonwealth and the abnormal climate patterns of recent years seen around the globe illustrate the urgency surrounding this issue\, and demonstrates to all of us that swift action is needed.\nAs the Chair of the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change\, Senator Pacheco has been one of the Massachusetts Legislature’s foremost experts on climate change\, helping to position the Commonwealth as a national leader on climate change mitigation and climate resiliency policy. Meaningful action to address the devastating impact of climate change will depend on cooperation and collaborative efforts at the federal\, state\, and local levels. It is my hope that this event will provide an occasion to discuss what each of us can do to contribute to these efforts.\nParking available on the street or in the Early Garage at 135 Middlesex Street.
