SUMMARY:2019 Amplify Conference: Claiming Our Power
DESCRIPTION:About the Conference: \nWe invite you to join us for the 3rd Amplify Conference: Claiming Our Power on June 1\, 2019. On this day\, we will come together and join forces with Latinx leaders from diverse sectors\, Latinx-led community organizations and power-building groups from across Massachusetts. This is an opportunity to build new relationships\, strengthen existing partnerships and develop the Latinx Power Coalition for the Commonwealth and beyond. As the Latinx population in Massachusetts continues to grow and drive our economy\, Latinx leadership is lagging behind. Bold action and structural change are crucial to claim our power and have a voice in decision making impacting the Latinx community. \nWhat To Expect: \nThe Amplify Conference will convene over 350 Latinx leaders across multiple sectors\, including political leaders\, community organizers\, business executives\, cultural leaders and the artistic community to recognize our Latinx elected leaders and develop an understanding of the State of the Latinx Community in Massachusetts. Through our keynote speakers\, Firestarter storytellers\, interactive workshops\, and closing social reception\, participants will build powerful partnerships and relationships that amplify our work. \nDuring this convening we will begin to: \nBUILD a sustainable coalition of Latinx leaders and organizations that support our Amplify Latinx mission of increasing Latino civic engagement\, leadership representation\, and economic opportunity; \nDEVELOP a diverse leadership pipeline who will challenge the status quo and advance the priority issues of the Amplify Latinx coalition; \nIDENTIFY key policy issues for the Massachusetts Latino community that will become part of an Amplify Latinx shared policy agenda for Latino upward mobility. \nAgenda\n1:30 – 2:00 Registration and Networking \n2:00 – 3:30 Opening Program: Keynote and Firestarters \n3:45 – 5:00 Partner Breakout Sessions \n5:15 – 6:00 Closing Keynote Session \n6:00 – 7:00 Networking Reception \n*Speakers and Workshops to be announced \nAbout Amplify Latinx: \nAmplify Latinx is a non-partisan\, collaborative convener that builds Latinx economic and political power by significantly increasing Latinx civic engagement and representation in leadership positions across sectors. Amplify Latinx was founded by The Latina Circle\, a Boston-based social venture founded in 2012 that is advancing Latina leaders across industries into positions of power and influence.

SUMMARY:Lobby Day for the Safe Communities Act
DESCRIPTION:When immigrant rights are under attack\, what do we do? Stand up\, fight back! \nThe Safe Communities Act (S.1401/H.3573) will create a stronger Commonwealth by protecting immigrants’ rights and keeping law enforcement focused on public safety. Join us for an exciting lobby day to push our legislators forward on this bill. \nEven if your legislator is an SCA co-sponsor\, they still need to hear from you to keep this bill a priority. We’ll start together with an overview of the SCA and how it would help our state\, then split up to meet with our legislators and share our urgency with them. All are welcome\, young or old! \nPlease share with your networks; those not on Facebook can sign up via this Google doc:\nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/1hNdAxPyAA6T-EzTMhMMwVmJ37V4qS80vHvagxM3daW4/edit

SUMMARY:Election Day Registration (EDR) Lobby Day
DESCRIPTION:oin us at the Statehouse: https://bit.ly/2YEWBth \nEvery election\, Massachusetts disenfranchises thousands of its own citizens by denying eligible voters the ability to register or update their information on Election Day. \nTwo out of three of those prevented from casting a ballot are actually registered but rendered ineligible because their registration contains simple and fixable errors. \nEDR is a basic reform with a 40-year proven record that has allowed millions of voters across 20 states that have implemented it\, to cast a ballot by registering or updating their registration to vote on election day. \nJoin us at the State House on June 5th (from 10-12) to take the next great step in voting rights for Massachusetts! \nSign up here: https://bit.ly/2YEWBth \nSchedule:\n10 AM – Room 428 State House\, Briefing and lobbying assignments\n11AM – Meetings with Representatives (we will arrange these meetings)\n11:30 AM – Meetings with Senators (we will arrange these meetings)\nNoon – Conclusion and reporting back on your meetings

SUMMARY:#ImpeachTrump: Act to Defend Democracy
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, June 15\, for #ImpeachTrump: Act to Defend Democracy\, a national day of local action to demand an inquiry into the impeachment of Donald Trump! \nDonald Trump’s abuses of our communities and country demand action from Congress\, which has the responsibility and authority to hold Trump accountable. Events will be visible\, family-friendly\, public gatherings to demonstrate to our representatives that impeachment is the will of the people. Together\, we will inform our communities about Trump’s abuses and the process of impeachment\, then make plans to convey our support for impeachment to our elected officials. \nA core principle shared by supporting organizations is a commitment to nonviolent\, peaceful actions. All actions that are sponsored or organized on this page are intended to be nonviolent and peaceful. We expect all participants to act lawfully at all times and to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:ROE Act Hearing
DESCRIPTION:Bodily autonomy is a fundamental human right. And it’s at risk. With the appointment of anti-choice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court\, President Trump and his allies have the best chance in a generation to end legal abortion. \nIn such a climate\, it’s important for states like Massachusetts to shore up and expand the protections granted in Roe vs. Wade. \nNext Monday\, June 17\, the Joint Committee on the Judiciary will hear testimony on the ROE Act (S.1209/H.3320). Parents\, providers\, young people\, and advocates agree—no one should be forced to cross state lines for care. \nThe hearing will start at noon\, and will likely go for a while. \nLet us know if you can go — and if you want to testify — here.

SUMMARY:Election Day Registration (EDR) Hearing
DESCRIPTION:TLDR: There’s a hearing for Election Day Registration this Thursday and we need volunteers to show their support simply attending the hearing and wearing a sticker. Help us pass this critical and commonsense reform by showing up at 1pm and staying for however long you can.\n—\nThis month\, over 100 volunteers came out to show their support for Election Day Registration at Lobby Day. \nNow\, Election Day Registration has a hearing on June 20 – and we need your support. A strong constituent showing at the hearing may decide whether EDR goes to a vote – and gets passed. \nElection Day Registration is a simple and proven reform that will ensure that every eligible voter who wants to exercise their constitutional right to vote on Election Day can cast a ballot that gets counted. \nPlease join us at the State House (Hearing Room A-1) on June 20 to attend the hearing and wear an EDR sticker! We believe that a strong showing of constituent support may make the difference. Our democracy will be stronger for it.
