SUMMARY:Resolution to support thousands of Central American migrants
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE! \nAt the request of Centro Presente\, City Councilor Josh Zakim will propose a Boston City Council resolution to support thousands of Central American migrants that are part of a caravan escaping from extreme violence and seeking safety. \nWHEN: Wednesday\, December\, 5th at 12:00pm\nWHERE: City Council Ianella Chambers\, 5th Floor\, Boston City Hall \nThe Boston City Council will discuss a resolution to support thousands of Central American migrants that have fled their homes because of the distress in their country. “We thank Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim\, for supporting this initiative and being the author of our resolution.” \nCentro Presente stands in solidarity with the caravan of Central American immigrants and reiterates that it will continue to defend and work to promote the protection and respect for the human rights of all migrants\, whatever their condition or circumstance\, with special attention to women\, children and members of the LGBTQ community\, who are more marginalized and at greater risk of suffering human rights violations. \n“We call for the governments of the region to respect the human rights of migrants\, members of the caravan and of all those people who are forced to migrate as a last option to survive. We reiterate that there continues to be a series of structural factors such as poverty\, inequality\, violence and social exclusion\, which act as the main factors in the expulsion of people from their countries of origin\,” declared Patricia Montes\, Executive Director of Centro Presente. \nPatricia Montes\, Centro Presente (617) 483 2937

SUMMARY:Cosecha Rally for immigrant workers
DESCRIPTION:Join us next Monday\, December 10th\, as Cosecha and the Grinch show Boston what Christmas looks like for immigrant workers who have worked for months without getting paid by their boss. Without money for rent\, food\, presents\, and travel\, workers who have not gotten paid will not be able to celebrate as they should be able to with their loved ones. We will be in Sullivan Station in the morning\, in downtown at lunch hour\, and in Maverick Square in East Boston in the evening. Sign up here to join us! \nIn November\, Cosecha won back almost $4\,000 in stolen wages for Wilfredo\, Marlon\, and Ludin\, former workers with KMZ Construction. On Monday\, we will be spreading the word around Boston about how we use community power to win back wages and fight for dignity and respect in the workplace. Join us on Monday!

SUMMARY:MEJA Winter Assembly
DESCRIPTION:We’re bringing together the students\, parents\, educators\, and the whole MEJA community for a MEJA Winter Assembly. \nBuilding off of our statewide convening in the summer\, we will be planning our path forward for the new year\, talking about the Fund Our Future campaign to fund our public schools and colleges\, and holding sessions on testing\, privatization\, student debt\, the school-to-prison pipeline\, parent and community organizing\, student power\, and much more. \nWhen: Saturday\, December 15th from 11AM to 6PM\nWhere: Boston\, exact location TBD \nWe will hold youth-only breakouts\, a PHENOM meeting\, and other special sessions by member organizations. We’ll also discuss the public education landscape following the election and going into the new legislative session on Beacon Hill. Charter school privatizers are trying to co-opt social justice language to advocate privatization\, and they have a friend in Governor Baker. \nWe need fully funded schools where teachers have the freedom to teach and students have the freedom to learn.
