SUMMARY:Immigrants' Day at the State House 2018
DESCRIPTION:Save the date! For the 22nd year in a row\, MIRA is organizing Immigrants’ Day at the State House\, the biggest lobbying day of the year for immigrants\, refugees and allies. We’ll gather at 10am\, have a brief speaking program at 11am\, then fan out through the building to meet with legislators and advocate for priority bills and funding for programs such as English classes and adult basic education. Last year we had our largest turnout ever\, with more than 1\,600 people. \nOur theme this year is “Immigrants Get the Job Done”. We plan to highlight the key role of foreign-born workers in some of Massachusetts’ top economic sectors\, such as healthcare\, technology\, and hospitality\, with business leaders and public officials joining us. Mark your calendar and make sure to be there!

They are technically free\, but can also be purchased at $20 or $50 with proceeds benefiting the organizations.\n \nThe Youth Advocacy Foundation has been fighting for justice for vulnerable children in Massachusetts for over 15 years. SUMMARY:Tax Day: Repeal the Trump Tax\, Pass the People's Budget
DESCRIPTION:We are facing ominous budget developments in Washington. \nPresident Trump’s tax bill is ensuring billions of dollars in profits to large corporations and peanuts to working people. His Pentagon spending will lead to more wars\, the deaths of innocent civilians\, and less security in our own safety. Cuts in essential programs from Climate protection to Medicaid\, Housing\, Social Security and Medicare are imminent. We must turn around Washington’s budget insanity. \n-The Trump/Ryan tax cuts for the 1% will drain the treasury of over $1.5 trillion of needed revenue over the next 10 years. These deficits will drive deep cuts to Medicare\, Medicaid\, climate and other vital programs for years to come. \n-Congress has voted dramatic increases in war spending and first-strike nuclear weapons. These will make the world much more dangerous and drive further cuts to our economic\, social and environmental security. \n-President Trump’s latest Budget proposal makes draconian cuts to housing\, Medicaid\, food stamps\, and almost every other domestic program. \n-And to top it all of\, Trump has still refused to release his tax returns \nJoin us on Tax Day to call attention to these dangers while promoting our budget priorities to fund the programs we all need.

SUMMARY:2018 March for Science Boston
DESCRIPTION:We are proud to announce that we will be doing a 2018 March for Science in Boston! \nPLEASE RSVP AND SHARE: http://marchforscienceboston.betterfutureproject.org/rsvp \nPLEASE DONATE AND SHARE – https://marchforscienceboston-betterfutureproject.nationbuilder.com/donate \nAt the 2017 March for Science\, tens of thousands of us came together to defend science against the assault by leaders in our federal government\, and to proclaim the importance of science in public policy and celebrate the discovery\, understanding\, and sharing of scientific knowledge as crucial to the success\, health\, and safety of the human race. Together\, we were part of more than one million people around the world who gathered together in the largest event for science advocacy in history. \nOn Saturday\, April 14th\, we will continue to use the momentum of last year’s march to once again lift up these same themes and ideals\, but we won’t stop there. In 2018\, we’ll also take the offensive and rally behind specific climate legislation that will advance certain science- and evidence-based policy in the Massachusetts state legislature\, with an eye to passage this year. In 2018 in Massachusetts\, science is striking back! \nPlease spread the word far and wide and join us for this historic occasion! \nPlease note that this year’s rally will still contain a broader focus on the importance of science in policy\, the need for well-funded scientific research\, and the importance of diversity and inclusion within the sciences\, but for Boston\, our theme this year will be around climate science\, and advancing science-based climate policy in the Massachusetts State Legislature.
