SUMMARY:Lawrence Education Forum
DESCRIPTION:1st floor of the Library \nCalling all concerned to talk issues and solutions around Lawrence Public Schools and others in the area with Senator Barbara L’Italien and Representative Diana DiZoglio\, both of which are on the Joint Committee on Education at the State House. Big deal. \nWe’ll be demanding an end to the Receivership and to reinstate our democratically elected school committee members. We really have to push for a hold on High Stakes Testing (MCAS)\, too\, as a way to protect our students and help them actually learn! Find out how the Raise Up campaign will tax the rich and fund our public schools\, and what’s up with the teacher’s contract? \nAlso invited are Rep. Juana Matias\, Andy Vargas\, Frank Moran\, and James Lyons Jr.

SUMMARY:Rethinking Incarceration with Dominique Gilliard
DESCRIPTION:As we know\, the US has more people locked up in jails\, prisons\, and detention centers than any other country in the history of the world. We also know that the criminal justice system is plagued with bias and unjust practices. And the church has unwittingly contributed to the problem\, something that we may not know. Dominique Gilliard explores the history and foundation of mass incarceration\, examining the churches’ role in its evolution and expansion. He then shows how we can pursue justice that restores and reconciles\, offering creative solutions and highlighting innovative interventions. The church has the power to help transform our criminal justice system. Discover how you can participate in the restorative justice needed to bring authentic rehabilitation\, lasting transformation\, and healthy reintegration to this broken system. Hope you will join us. Please rsvp so we can plan to have enough space for you. \n \n\nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfDjYMHXBAOFBCW5DWgKSlje3NCc33KfKdA_PRtiCZzQYUHNQ/viewform?usp=pp_url&entry.1498135098&entry.2606285
